Beef and broccoli

Have you ever wanted a recipe that you just know you pay way too much for at an Asian restaurant? I have made my version of beef and broccoli for many years and find it to taste much better than what is available in restaurants. Most of the time the restaurant versions have beef that tastes fatty and is hard to eat, and the broccoli tends to be over cooked. This is a quick cooking recipe that is perfect for a week night family meal.

Enjoy!

2 tbsp olive oil
1 lb beef, sirloin steak thinly sliced
1 crown broccoli, cut into bite sized pieces
3 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp white pepper
2 tbsp oyster sauce
1 tbsp soy sauce
2 tsp fish sauce
1/4 c water or beef stock
1 tbsp corn starch (optional)
1/4 c warm water (optional)

In a large skillet over medium heat, add the oil. Allow the oil to warm through for about a minute. Add the sliced beef, cooking for about 5 minutes. To the beef, add in the broccoli and garlic. Lower heat to medium-low so the garlic does not burn. Add the salt and pepper, oyster sauce, soy sauce, fish sauce, and water. Mix well. Cover with a tight fitting lid, allowing the broccoli to steam for 3-5 minutes.

When ready to serve, if you desire a thicker sauce, create a slurry with the corn starch and warm water. Add the slurry to the sauce and stir for a minute or until slightly thickened.

Serving suggestions: cooked jasmine rice, or pan fried Asian egg noodles.
