Chinese BBQ pork tenderloin

Have you ever wanted to replicate a meal you ate at a restaurant? I always want to eat restaurant style meals at home, just a healthier version if possible. This is one of those recipes. Chinese style bbq pork tenderloin can be lean and just as flavorful as the more unctuous spare ribs. Do not be surprised by how simple it can be to make. You probably have all the ingredients on hand in your pantry already!

2 lb pork tenderloin, trimmed
5 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp white pepper, ground
1/4 c cilantro leaves, chopped
1 c soy sauce
1/2 c sugar (or less if your prefer less sweetness)
1 tsp red food coloring (optional)

Trim and clean the pork tenderloin and set aside until ready to marinade. In a large bowl, mix the garlic, pepper, cilantro, soy sauce and sugar together until the sugar is dissolved. Add in the food coloring if you desire the traditional red color. Place the tenderloin into the marinade, turning to cover completely. Marinade for at least an hour.

Allow to return to room temperature for at least 30 minutes before cooking. When ready to cook, preheat the oven at 350F. Place the pork on a roasting pan and cook for 45 minutes.

Remove the tenderloin from the oven and allow to rest for about 10-15 minutes before slicing.

Serving suggestions: eat with jasmine rice, in a good bowl of wonton soup, or cut up and put in fried rice. The possibilities are endless!
