French toast

Have you looked around your kitchen and realized you had everything you needed to make a delicious and decadent breakfast? That is what happened after we moved into our current home. The move was quite the process; I needed to find motivation to cook. Our wonderful realtor left us a welcome basket with a beautiful loaf of cinnamon bread which lead me to research French toast recipes. That is when I realized I had everything in my boxes to make this tasty breakfast!

I have also used other tasty breads with this base French toast recipe. They have all been very delicious. But I think my guys prefer the cinnamon bread by far. Find which bread works for you. Happy cooking!

6 eggs
1-1/3 c milk (my preference is to use whole milk)
2 tsp cinnamon
Zest of 1 orange
1/4 c orange juice
8 slices, day old bread, thick sliced
butter
Maple syrup

In a medium bowl beat the eggs, milk, and cinnamon. Add the zest and orange juice and whisk together well.

Place the sliced bread into a rimmed cookie sheet. Pour the egg mixture into the cookie sheet, making sure to saturate both sides of the bread. Set aside for about 10 minutes.

Meanwhile, add plenty of butter to a large skillet and melt over medium-high heat. Once the butter is melted, add 3 or 4 slices of the bread. Careful not to crowd the pan. Reduce the heat to medium. Fry until brown on both sides, about 4 minutes per side. Set aside on a plate. Repeat steps, adding butter if necessary, until all the soaked bread slices are cooked.

Serve with maple syrup, more butter if desired, and fresh berries.
